Welcome
My name is Mark Blackshaw, As Principal of Helensvale State High School I take pleasure in welcoming you to our school community. Helensvale State High School is a co-educational 8 to 12 school located at the corner of Helensvale Road and Discovery Drive at Helensvale on the Gold Coast.
Our school is a large school with an enrolment of approximately 2000 students. Our students enjoy the benefits and opportunities that flow from a large size while still maintaining a sense of belonging essential in all great schools. Students for the future and futures for our students
We aim for a caring but assertive environment for our students. An environment where the bar for academic and behavioural outcomes is set high, but where there is ample support to help our students reach that height.

History of Helensvale HighHelensvale High commenced in 1990 with barely 200 students and a small but dedicated staff, numbering 12, led by the inaugural principal, Mr Rod Cassidy. Students came from a wide feeder area, as far north as Jacob's Well, west to Mt Tamborine and south to Gaven, as well as the rapidly growing Helensvale area. Helensvale was the only high school in the area other than Coombabah High. On day one the students and staff gathered in front of the school buildings, which at that stage consisted of the Administration Block and only one teaching block. The students were dressed in their brand new uniforms, which had been designed and chosen by the school community in the latter months of 1989. During 1990 all students studied a core of subjects at the year 8 level in the block that is now the Home Economics Block. During this year, staff, students and parents planned the style of school they wished to develop, choosing subjects, planning teaching and learning styles, planning sporting activities as well as performance projects. |
