2026 Laptop Program
Helensvale State High School runs a laptop program, whereby the majority of students participate in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) option. We also offer a limited number of annual hire laptops.
Requirements
- It is critical for both parents and students to read and understand the requirements of the
2026 Laptop Program Charter.pdf
- Upon enrolment, students will receive this booklet in their enrolment packages and it is also available, as named, via the link in Our Supporting Documents section below.
- The starting point for every student with respect to their use of computers, network connectivity and Internet access on campus is contingent on a parent/carer completing an online consent form which is emailed to a parent/carer for each enrolled child up to the commencement of the new school year.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Students are invited to bring their privately owned laptops to school to support their learning and have them connected to the school network.
If joining the BYOD program, students must bring a device that meets the Minimum Specifications required by the school.
If you are yet to purchase a device, we highly recommend purchasing from one of our 2026 BYOD Partner Portals through HP, Dell and LWT as there are distinct advantages over purchasing from a retailer: availability of 3 years manufacturer's warranty and 3 years accidental damage protection for minimal price (highly recommended); all repairs are logged with Dell, HP or LWT by school technicians, quick turnaround and client convenience and finally peace of mind that all devices meet school requirements. With the exception of Apple devices, any defects, physical damage, or problems with Apple devices must be taken to an Apple store by the parent or guardian to be resolved.
Information regarding student device onboarding will be emailed to all new families prior to starting at Helensvale State High School as well as on-site support provided at the IT Office.
The school has a limited number of school owned laptops for hire on an annual basis.
Due to recent large price increases, a fee for hire in 2027 will increase to $400 per annum payment for new students and full payment is required before the laptop is issued. The hire fee for students with an existing school laptop will remain at $250 per annum until the end of Year 9. Students transitioning to Year 10 senior school will be required to purchase their own laptop or if there is availability, they may hire a school laptop for $400 per annum. If you are experience financial hardship please contact the school Business Manager.
Hire for Pro Rata refunds are based on a full school term.
Accidental damage to an Annual Hire Laptop will incur a $100 repair fee. Any loss of an Annual Hire Laptop which is unrecoverable or has incurred malicious/deliberate damage, will incur a fee towards its replacement value, currently that value for a new device is currently $1400 with further increases expected heading into 2027.
Emergency Day Loan Laptop
Nil Cost – We have a limited quantity of loan Laptops available to students for the day if they are participating in either BYOD or Annual Hire programs should their regular device suffer damage or requires a warranty repair. Loan laptops are not available for students participating in BYOD or Annual Hire programs if they simply forget to bring their device to school.
Day loan Laptops will not be issued during class time and must be returned to the IT Office at the end of the school day.
Loan Laptops are issued at random. We cannot guarantee the same laptop is available the following day.
Accidental, malicious or deliberate damage to a Day Loan Laptop will incur a $100 repair fee and the loss of a loan Laptop which is unrecoverable will incur a $500 fee towards its replacement.
