Dance Academy
Designed to inspire and extend dancers with both passion and skill, the Helensvale State High School Dance Academy program develops students' capabilities in Performance and Choreography while imparting a strong foundational appreciation of the Arts. Our dynamic curriculum encompasses various competitive platforms across the Gold Coast and wider-regions and provides students opportunities to engage with industry professionals. The Dance Academy program draws from students' technical skills and understanding of the Arts and accelerates these abilities through focused-experiences across many genres of Dance. Driven by a passion of dance in education, the skilled staff nurtures not only the expressive abilities of our students, but their academic proficiencies. Dance Academy students are provided with the highest level of preparation for their Senior Dance electives and gain a confidence that is transferable into other areas of their studies. This program highlights the values of respect, responsibility and resilience and instils in our students the importance of creativity and the joy of movement.
Drama Academy
The Drama Academy program at Helensvale State High School values creativity, individuality and self-expression. Delivered by expert teachers, our stimulating curriculum nurtures high-performing dramatic artists and allows them to embrace and understand their place in this world. Our academically rich program ensures the foundations of learning prepares our students for the rigour of senior schooling. Students become familiar with the necessary skills required to fulfil the various roles of the theatre and discover how to engage audiences though creative script-writing.
Our Drama Academy staff understand the importance of education beyond the classroom, and as such ensure students are challenged and exposed to a range of learning experiences to consolidate and extend upon what is taught in the classroom. Students actively engage in practical, skill-based workshops with artists-in-residence who inspire student-devised works, showcased to our wider community throughout each year. This dynamic program has produced dedicated, collaborative and confident young leaders with a passion for the Arts.
Visual Arts Academy
Helensvale State High School Visual Arts Academy supports innovative, critical and creative minds. Designed to foster your One Student, our program nurtures their artistic strengths and through an engaging and meaningful curriculum, allows students to discover new ways to create art. Our staff recognise the need to have a space for self-expression, exploration, imagination and cultural and historical understanding in today's ever-changing society and expose students to a range of experiences to consolidate and extend upon class content. With the guidance and inspiration of our specialised teachers, Art Academy students experiment and refine both individually and collaboratively as we build a culture of creating thinking in Art. Student work is celebrated and showcased at various events throughout the year while students also engage and appreciate the works of local and international artists.
Music Academy
The Helensvale State High School Music Academy gives students the skills to thrive as a working artist, be courageous through their own creativity and collaborate with peers. The program encourages students to be active members of the music industry, challenging their creativity and personal expression. Students engage in practical activities including music performance and composition, sound recording, and live sound for events.
Our program suits students who are musicians of all different varieties including vocalists, traditional instrumentalists, rock and popular instrumentalists and even electronic instrumentalists as well as composers and musicologists. Students will continue to develop their skills across a variety of music styles and genres, building on their prior experiences and developing new skills and ideas.
Through the guidance and inspiration of our specialised teachers, students will be challenged to experiment and be innovative in their work and will engage in practical and skill-based workshops throughout the course. Student work is celebrated and showcased at various events throughout the year.
