Dear Parents and Carers
With the Gold Coast North Interschool Sport competition commencing in the near future, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some key information so your child can start to consider what sporting and alternative options are available for them.
Gold Coast Interschool Sport
This year, our interschool sport competition is bigger and better than ever! No longer do we have GIPSA sport, where we were in a competition with only 3 other schools. We now participate in the much larger Gold Coast competition, encompassing 15 schools across the Gold Coast region. There are 3 clusters, Gold Coast North, Central and South. We initially play against the schools within our cluster. Our school is in the Gold Coast North cluster along with Coombabah SHS, Pacific Pines SHS, Foxwell State Secondary College and Upper Coomera State College. The winning teams of each cluster will then play off in a final.
The Gold Coast North Sport dates are:
Round 1: Term 1, Week 9, Tuesday 19 March
Round 2: Term 2, Week 2, Wednesday 24 April
Round 3: Term 2, Week 9, Thursday 13 June
Round 4: Term 2, Week 3, Tuesday 23 July (Gold Coast North finals)
Round 5: Term 2, Week 6, Wednesday 14 August (overall finals)

Mr Sherlock, our Sport Coordinator, discussed the interschool sport competition on assemblies. Students must read their emails which also provide information on not only the interschool sport competition, but Broadwater sports trials, which are happening now, and the upcoming school swimming carnival.
The major sponsor for the GC Sport comp is Village Roadshow Theme Parks. A message from our major sponsor:
Village Roadshow Theme Parks is proud to partner with the Gold Coast Secondary Principals Alliance for their upcoming Gold Coast Sport 2024 inter-school sport program. The partnership is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our educational experiences, theme parks and attractions, while also providing participants with a range of exclusive ticketing options.
Participation Requirements
Senior Students (Years 10, 11 and 12)
- Participation in Gold Coast North sport for those who have returned permission slips by the due date
- Work experience (signed paperwork must be lodged through Ms Bellamy)
- School based programs which include a selection of activities designed and delivered by teachers
- Remote (from home) study is a new option for senior students not wishing to participate in the activities listed above or who are required to be at school, as per below. If your child chooses to study from home their attendance will not be penalised.
Not Optional
Some senior students are required to attend school to complete theory catch up for traineeships and TAFE courses, or to complete short course literacy and numeracy. This will support students to achieve their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Key staff will inform these students directly.
Junior Secondary Students (Years 7, 8 and 9)
Junior secondary students must either participate in Gold Coast North sport or school-based activities. There is no option to study from home. Attendance is compulsory.
Nominations for school-based activities (for students not participating in interschool sport) will occur via survey in Futures during week five.
General Information
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who have not selected a sport or school-based activity by the due dates will be allocated activities based on availability.
